"Sex Machina" is the 4^th episode of the first season of the series Inside Job. It premiered on October 22, 2021, along with the rest of Part 1.

Synopsis

"After Cognito Inc. buys a dating app, Reagan bets her team she can find a boyfriend — and creates a robot version of her perfect match to practice on."

Plot

Tamiko tries to convince Reagan to date the pool boy who works at her mom's pool. J.R. tells the team that Cognito has purchased a dating app and Reagan gets tasked with going through dick pics, which she begrudgingly agrees to. Everyone on the team bets on her dating life, annoying her, so she has a new mission, to get a boyfriend by the end of the week. Reagan tries and fails to get a boyfriend, despite her numerous attempts, while the other co-workers bet on each other's likeability on the dating app.

Reagan talks to Alpha-Beta in hopes of getting dating advice and he matches her with a man named Bryan while Brett and Glenn switch faces and bodies as part of another bet. Reagan makes a robot version of Bryan to practice with, but ends up embarrassing herself when the real Bryan appears. She decides to date the robot Bryan, declaring she understands romance. Meanwhile, Glenn in Brett's body enjoys his attractiveness while Brett in Glenn's body suffers, but they ultimately realize that it's their personalities that matter when Glenn is forgotten and Brett makes up with Glenn's ex-wife.

Reagan later fights a robot version of herself made by her robot boyfriend, who goes on a date with the real Bryan at the Smithsonian, and kills the Robo-Reagan. Reagan and Bryan talk, with them agreeing to part ways, while Reagan calls an extraction team to take Bryan away. Later, she talks to Alpha-Beta, who tells her he changed the dating algorithm because Reagan changed. She notes it is strange that the body of Robo-Reagan couldn't be found, and Alpha-Beta happily watches more episodes of Friends.

Trivia

• The episode title is a play on the words "deus ex machina" (Latin: god out of the machine), which describes an unsolvable problem in a story being abruptly solved by an unlikely plot contrivance. This may also reference the 2014 film, Ex Machina.
• Between the first title opening and the first scene, there is a QR code that links to the website http://luv4244737.com. This redirects to the Instagram account of the RightSwipe App, where the profiles of the cast can be seen along with some text conversations.
