Synopsis[]
"Rand unleashes Project Reboot as the Cognito co-workers lean about their alternative lives—and how a tin foil hat can actually come in handy."
Plot[]
The episode starts with Reagan looking at her phone waiting to hear back from Staedtler. When J.R. enters the room, he panics when he sees Brett holding a poster for Kazaam called Shazaam starring different actors. He the leads the team to Rand’s office where it is a total mess and covered in a bunch of conspiracy junk, then he explains what is happening right now.
Many years ago, at Harvard, Rand met J.R., and they immediately got on each other's nerves, but they soon recognized each other's talents, so they decided to join forces to make money. From the later ’70s to Early ’80s, the two created numerous inventions that ended in disasters. After so many failures they succeeded when they invented a reality altering machine, they called "Project Reboot". However, they were captured and brought in front of the Shadow Board the true secret rulers of the world. They offered them to create the company that would become known as Cognito inc. in exchange for dismantling their invention. However, Rand convinced J.R. to hide Project Reboot instead as an insurance policy and they buried it in the middle of the desert.
Reagan believes that her father has displeased the Shadow Board and is at risk of losing his job, so he is using the machine to try and fix it. Reagan and the others put on tin foil hats to protect them from being affected by the reality changes, but Andre inadvertently takes his off and teleports away. As the rest of the team take a van to Project Reboot, they see how dramatically the world has changed. Reagan modifies Alpha-Betta to see the changes to the timeline. She learns that Andre won the lottery and is now a celebrity doctor. Reagan knowing if her team would get distracted if they knew the truth lies but then they see their new lives; Myc is pregnant, Glen never had the dolphin surgery, and his wife didn’t leave him, and Gigi is leader of the Illuminati. They all take of their hats and disappear just as Andre did.
The Van then crashes so Reagan and Brett travel on foot though a bunch of chaotic change to the timeline to Rand’s makeshift shack. Before entering Reagan thanks Brett for sticking by her when everyone else abandon her then takes off his hat because she didn’t want to her best friend to get involved with her family drama anymore. Reagan then goes in the shack to confront her father where she sees that he was not trying to get revenge on the Shadow Board for firing him like she assumed, but instead was trying to create a timeline where he was still married to Tamiko and Regan didn't resent him. After having a heart to heart, they both resolve to shut down the machine, but J.R. became enraged that everyone else on the team got an ideal timeline and decided to use it himself to get his wealth and power back. He shot off Reagan's left pinky finger as he fights his way to control panel though both Rand and Reagan. Fortunately, J.R. was stopped just time by a tractor beam
It is revealed that the rest of the team returned in the company’s flying saucer, having remembered the previous timeline due to Brett taking notes on his poster. Turns out the more Rand hit the button the more their lives went downhill; Myc wasn’t really pregnant he just had to much Del Taco, Glen worked for the Russians, Gigi was head of the Disney division of the Illuminati, Andre saw the downsides of having a horse dick, and Brett found how catty the puppeteer world can be. In the end they realized their mistake and were just happy to back together. After reality was restored to normal, both Rand and J.R. are arrested and will be sent to the Shadow Board for sentencing, during which Reagan realizes that sending her father to Shadow Prison X was probably the best way to protect him from himself. As he is taken away Rand sincerely apologized to his daughter for everything, he put her though. Reagan then looks at her phone and still hasn’t gotten a reply from Staedtler.
